I just wanted to make a quick introduction, and to pass the word along about a couple of Ohio heritage tourism-related initiatives that we will be launching this year.

First, a quick introduction – Preservation Ohio was established 26 years ago as Ohio’s statewide historic preservation organization, and have a wide range of programming that work to promote the future of Ohio’s built past. You can find us online at: www.preservationohio.org.

Our first initiative is a new online site for heritage tourism in Ohio – a place to celebrate the past, both in its built and cultural forms. Called “The Ohio Heritage Traveler,” the site will focus on acquainting Ohioans and potential visitors not only about heritage attractions, but also about stories that tie those attractions to the present. The site will be fully interactive, allowing for uploading of photos, videos and audio, as well as the ability to generate heritage and cultural travel itineraries.

The site should be online within the next two months; I have attached a couple of screenshots. This project is being done 100% in-house.

The Ohio Heritage Traveler will also be tied to our exciting new initiative that will work with communities across the state in creating and marketing interactive online and on-site audio and visual walking tours and site promotion. Many communities have wonderful stories to share, but have not taken the time to collect, collate and package those stories. As we work with communities across Ohio to preserve their historic resources, we will be using this as another tool for creating value for those resources. Our work is beginning soon in communities in southeast and northeast Ohio.

We are planning to be “out and about” in the state in the coming months promoting these new programs, and we will undoubtedly have occasion to meet. We look forward to building strong ties in the Ohio tourism industry. If you would like to be a part of this project in any way, please let us know; we’d be incredibly happy to garner your input, advice, assistance and/or partnership!

All the best,

Thomas Palmer

Hi: Zanesville is one of the centers of Ohio pottery and glass heritage. Here at the Zanesville Art Center, we have a collection of over 1,000 pieces of art and utilitarian pottery produced in Zanesville from the 1860s-1960s, plus studio pottery from Ohio artists 1930s-present. We also have archival photos and great images of masterworks of Ohio pottery. We could use some help in telling our story and marketing Zanesville as a heritage anchor for SE Ohio. If we can help with your mission, and/or you can help us, please let me know. Susan Talbot-Stanaway, Director, Zanesville Art Center (740) 452-0741, susan@zanesvilleartcenter.org.
